Snapshots of my world

Micklegate Bar!

As the sun came up I headed out on two wheels for an adventure under sunny, and chilly, skies. The sun took the edge of the temperature as the day went on but as soon as it vanished in the afternoon you sure knew it was a cold day. However, such a pleasure to be turning the pedals without any rain or ridiculous winds! :-D

I had a fantastic time spinning the pedals all the way to York and back, a total of 103 miles. I never thought that would be a thing I could just go and do with a supply of snacks and my usual determination ha ha!

Whilst taking my photo for blip I heard a tour guide telling his group of tourists that Micklegate Bar was the most important of York's four main medieval gateways and a focus for grand events. The name comes from Micklelith meaning great street. More grimly, severed heads of rebels and traitors used to be displayed a ove the gate!! Interesting stuff.
