Recycling. Leitz Summicron 50mm DR

As I do the prep work for the next furniture project, I harvested some old lumber from my wood pile.  A set of four harpsichord legs came to light.  They were meant to be protem while the elaborate serpentine permanent stand was under construction back in 1999.  For temporary legs, they're pretty fancy: carved from 4 inch thick solid walnut with fancy moldings and turnings forming the capitals.  That's a lot of walnut, probably a couple hundred dollars-worth.  So the wood will be recycled to make at least one set of legs for a pair of bedside tables.  The first step was to cut off the capitals - and keep them for yet another future project.  Precision cuts with the Kataba Japanese saw removed them cleanly.  Here is one showing how the confection was pieced together.  There is something very satisfying in finding a way to repurpose old into new.  It adds another dimension to the finished piece, secret perhaps, but there to be discovered one day.
