Little houses

One finds these miniature houses everywhere in Iceland, I am not sure what the significance is, but I think they are very cute. We saw these today in the churchyard of a church called Strandkirkja (interesting how similar this Icelandic word is to the Afrikaans word -Strandkerk). I was tempted to post a picture of the church, it is very beautiful and stands alone with no other buildings close by, overlooking the sea, but the little houses won.
