BALLS UP
Silly me, I thought it was the Sedgefield Show today, but when we got there we found it's not until next Saturday. Never mind, we followed the "Heritage Walk" around the village. This stone commemorates the Sedgefield Ball Game which is one of those wonderful extant ancient traditions where the whole town turns out on Shrove Tuesday and manhandles a ball up and down the town all day until somebody "wins" somehow. I'm not sure how - we'll have to go and watch next year to find out. It sounds as though it burns up the pancake calories anyway.
Here's more.
