Death on the Doorstep
As I left the house this afternoon I found this young Blackbird outside our back door. It had flown into our upstairs window and, by the looks of it, broken its neck. We have had lots of birds do this over the years, usually Wood Pigeons as they don't seem to know any better, but we don't usually see a fatality. I think the reflections in the windows when it is sunny must confuse them.
By the time I returned to bury the bird, I found a Herring Gull picking at the carcass. I know nature can be cruel most (if not all) of the time, but I really hate those bloody gulls.
