There's probably a German word for replacing the guts out of an old thing with new tech while maintaining the retro exterior. ChatGPT offered Techniknostalgie for the intentional use of old-tech aesthetics in new products. Seems close enough. 

Since my planned walk with Ewan was called off because of the pissing rain I thought I'd finish the easier of the two of these and hook up the little power supply and bluetooth amplifier to the speaker in this and see how it sounded. A side-by-side comparison with Mandy's little genuine Roberts bluetooth radio - itself a good example of Techniknostalgie - suggests it's pretty good.
