Lunas Belated Birthday Present
Farmer Franz turned up this morning with a dog house he built back in 1989 for a dog he had for a short time and it's been outside since then under the house eaves. As they were tidying up and doing some paving work, the dog house had to be moved and he asked us if we would like it. He did replace one side wall. The house is very large, both Flash & Luna can both easily fit in. It's now placed under a group of spruce trees, overlooking the back of the house and with a good view of the front entrance. Will be intersting if the dogs use it, Luna prefers being outdoors and usually lies just a few feet away from where the dog house sits. Perhaps when it gets wet & windy. Hope the chickens don't try occupying it as it's also the area the Chabos like to spend the day. Just hope I don't have to move in from time to time.
Rosie's Austria based farrier, Lothar, was doing his Bavaria tour this weekend so we packed her in the trailer and drove a few kilometers to a stable. Since he was last here 9 weeks ago, Rosie's hooves/shoes have been a real problem and Angie got carried away last week and put hoof oil not just on the important area but covered the whole hoof , with the result that the mastic/glue she needs started to break away. Worse though was that the oil stays on the hooves for ages and today Lothar could not get the new mastic to take hold. Lothar phoned the farrier supply shop owner (seems to supply all farriers in Bavaria) even though it was evening and they closed at midday, and he agreed to give us the special mastic Lothar needs, so Sunday morning I need to be at the shop near the racetrack in Munich at 10:00. A very pleasant bit of customer service as they are closed Sundays. Lothar will come by later in the day on his way back to Austria and try his best to get something stuck/nailed on. Perhaps we will need to bite the bullet and get her to go barefoot but given her terrible hoof condition (even as a foal) it could take more than a year to see if it's possible.
While at the other stables, the heavens turned black in the distance, the thunder rolled, three drops of rain and that was it. Back home at 20:00 thought the rain would come but no luck, just swarms of flying ants on the sun umbrellas and in the pool. They come at this time every year just for a few days. A nuisance but don't otherwise disturb us.
Hope all are having a good weekend.
