Hyles lineata
It was coming down to the wire, with no viable shots to blip, and then, at 11:55 pm, I spotted this masterpiece, clinging to the wall not a foot off the ground. It's a White-Lined Sphinx, a hummingbird-like moth that hovers at flowers while collecting nectar. This species is known to fly both at night and during the day. Every night on my bike ride home from work I imagine finding some magnificent monster moth like this; it is so thrilling when I actually do.
