Shell Bus
The kids are doing a project at school on the history of Iochdair. The township is home to the legendary Flora Johnstone’s thatched cottage and the former Shell Bus. She meticulously decorated an old bus with shells collected from nearby beaches. She also created little ornaments and decorated the walls of her house. The bus became a local attraction and Flora’s unique creation was picked up by the press, leading to a sponsorship by Uhu glue! The bus has gone now, but we have some photos of it because Uncle Donald has painted it various times over the years.
Flora’s thatch cottage has been derelict since the late 1980s but is now being restored which will be great to see! You can follow its progress on Facebook: www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.100068477565998
