W-I-D-E on Wednesday - ‘Round or Curvy’

After my very recent gastric bug making it touch and go, I did manage to get along to the BFI IMAX in Waterloo, London, this afternoon to see a sold-out preview of the new immersive music documentary “Becoming Led Zeppelin”, which will be on general release in cinemas worldwide from Friday. I had treated myself to the best seat in the house - in the VIP back row absolutely dead centre. Great view of the whole enormous screen (see Extras) and in the sweet spot for the incredible stereo sound. I absolutely loved it! We had time for a really insightful Q&A session with the director, Bernard MacMahon, after the showing and he told us how he managed to persuade the band to sanction the film and take part in extensive and quite candid new interviews for it. On leaving the auditorium, we were each given a limited edition glossy A4 poster (in Extras), and then to my delight I was able to speak to Bernard MacMahon briefly in the foyer to tell him in person how much I had enjoyed his work and to shake his hand and congratulate him and one of his team. I have a ticket booked for another sold-out screening on Sunday afternoon at Olympic Studios in Barnes, which is where the first two Led Zeppelin albums were recorded at the end of 1968 and during 1969, the era covered by the film. I’ve been messaged by the studios to say that when I get there the box office will give me an A2 poster, as I was one of the first to apply for it - apparently only 250 have been printed, so that’s quite exciting and seeing the historic Olympic Studios should be fascinating.

The BFI IMAX building itself provided the perfect blip for this week’s WidWed challenge theme of ‘Round or Curvy’, since it is completely round and sits in the middle of a busy roundabout! Many thanks to BobsBlips for hosting.
