Vintage

So many bits of history in Mother Comforts world. She was a collector of everything, and overwhelmed by all of it. I found, and hung, at least 15 adorable vintage aprons today, an entire wardrobe of hats & gloves, slips, lace, wool, and a large selection of polyester moo moos (or house dresses) and heavy, cozy robes of every variety.

Hand crocheted table cloths, hand sewn quilts and dresses. Home spun wool...Martha Stewart had nothing on her....except, perhaps, a staff to keep it cleaned and displayed properly.

We have decided and decided again what to keep, what to give away, what to sell. Then we decide one more time. We have set this month as the month to push ourselves to finish the task so that the house can be painted and cabinets put in place, made new.

The process stirs so many memories, especially for my beloved. So many important thoughts to think, to process, to assimilate. It's the kind of thing you avoid as long as you can, but at some point, you face.

And then you get another good night's sleep.

Tomorrow morning we gather with other believers, we sing praises to our most high God, and we thank Him, as we've been doing continually, for all the guidance, wisdom and help. Then to Bastendorf Beach for the Kiwanis Salmon BBQ, then the Cottage to begin preparation for new guests.

Slow and steady wins the race.
