Enduring
Some years ago I found this piece of wood. It's large, heavy and I found it in the Waimakariri River bed. I carried it some distance across the wide river bed and through a few river braids. It's big enough to stand a pot plant in the curved base.
Strictly speaking it should still be there as it was within the Arthur's Park National Park boundary and you're no supposed to remove anything from a National Park. But I didn't know and it's been in my front yard ever since.
It's endured and enduring. Spending a grey weekend in battered old Christchurch makes me realise we have to do a bit of enduring too.
