Purple Passion
We did get our ice storm episode overnight Wednesday into Thursday, just like they said in the forecast. You know those ice storm photos you have seen, where everything is just gorgeous and sparkly, dripping with ice and light? Yeah, you do? Well, it was nothing at all like that.
Instead, we got about two inches of SLEET that pelted loudly against the windows from about 3 a.m. on. It ended up in the driveway, and my husband and I shoveled it off (hello again, 100-foot driveway), much to our shoulders' chagrin.
It had not been that cold overnight, not cold enough to make the ice in the cat's bowl on the front porch completely solid. Instead, it was thin, and lacy, and sparkly as all get-out. It was gorgeous ice, my friends, like crystal cut by diamonds, but it did not last.
So I got my colored plastic beads and I put them inside that ice, and I took some wild, glorious photos. I typically super-saturate my ice abstracts, and when I do that, once in a while, I get a one-off: a shot whose colors are nothing at all like the rest. In this case, it was a single PURPLE shot, which I am sharing above because it was so much fun and so unexpected.
Now, some of you may be wondering why I have been focusing so much on ice of late. Let me tell you what: if you lived in the country that I live in, and saw all of the bullsh*t that was going on at all levels of things, YOU might want to crawl into a hole and pull the hole in after you. As for me, if you are looking for me, you will find me inside this bowl of ice!
My husband and I watched the film There's No Business Like Show Business the other night, and there was a line that (sadly) made us both laugh hysterically, so I'll end with that: "The news is all bad so we'll skip it. Let's move on to the music!"
Here is Prince, with an outstanding performance of Purple Rain, from the Super Bowl XLI half-time show.
