While on my runs

Neatly stacked

On Waitangi Day I had stopped short of excavating fully the pile left by the builders. The foreman had asked if we wanted anything from it, or did we want them to take it to the dump. Discussed with the grandsons, who volunteered to help me in sorting out what we could keep. So, the  pile was left. That was months ago, and in that time much has happened, including much grass growing over the pile.

Today's blip is of the neat and tidy stack of terra cotta paving slabs. As can be seen, I have kept a few with a corner having been broken off. Unshown are the piles of dirt, broken pieces of bricks, and pavers, and some bits of concrete. Also the grass from the top. Also left from the pile is a large piece from an old built in BBQ; it is far too heavy for me to manoeuvre by myself. I did manage to shift another similar block; like lots of the pile of waste these are waiting to be used in forming a 'dead hedge' along one side at the back.

I am enjoying preparing for the re-use of these pavers. The plan is to create a wall for a garden (or series of gardens) along the eastern edge of the backyard, at the base of the bank down from the neighbour's.

We will have to take into account the Nikau Palms along that bank. Nikau continually shed the huge fronds as they grow taller, which then fall onto whatever is in that area. Plants in that area will need to be fairly robust.
