Corn Cribs in Campia
Had made a few photos of these corn cribs, or espigueiros in Portuguese, thinking mainly of Blipper, Fuentes, who loves his hórreos. They are usually up high on the hillsides, so the wind can blow through and keep the corncobs dry through the wet winters here in the Beira Alta region. But was excited to see these two with the corn visible (not that you can see it in the wooden one in the photo, but it was full) as we pulled away from the café we had breakfast in, in Campia.
Two details to note - the hen underneath the wooden one, and the 15m statue of the Virgen Milagrosa on the hill overlooking the town.
Gratefuls:
- two nights in this beautiful part of Portugal, with its gorgeous food and wine
- calling in on Victor and Bia, for a catch-up
- getting safely home
