2025 Friday — Two in a Row
This was again a fun Friday, two in a row; actually it's probably twenty-two hundred in a row. I've not been counting. Last Friday SLO, today Cambria . . . the plan was to go to Cambria yesterday when I got home from BSF, but it was raining so we made ourselves a rain check to go later.
Liz at Freddie's Thrift Store (Freddie is a dog) was holding a small round drop-leaf pedestal-leg table for me. So today we pointed my car north toward Cambria and drove about 15 miles on Highway #1. Our first stop was at the "re•create" thrift store that is owned and operated by the Vineyard Church; a favorite place to wander and to wonder if we need this or that. While I shopped, Mr. Fun walked over to the church to look at their outdoor elevator. We both had fun and then made our exit to drive to the West Village to Freddie's Thrift Store (all proceeds go toward animal care). Liz had the table waiting for me and indicated that it was solidly built and heavy (oh no!); thankfully another male shopper offered to help Mr. Fun carry the table to our car and load it. What a blessing.
Then we moved the car to a shady parking spot and told Chloe and Mitzi we'd be back after lunch and we walked to Madeline's to enjoy lunch, and enjoy is what we did. The owner, David Stoothoff, waited on us and served us our meals, which were delicious. Madeline's is in a beautiful building with tables covered in white linens. If you asked Mr. Fun, he'd tell you that I appreciate ambience.
After lunch, we took the pups to Shammel Park to walk and explore. The wind right off the ocean was strong and the temperature chilly. After the park, we drove north on Moonstone Drive to find Madeline's ocean front venue (see photos). It is a wine tasting place that serves snacks and on Saturday and Sunday lunch; we decided that we'd like to try lunch there in the future.
Then we stopped at an art gallery so Mr. Fun could say "hi" to a former neighbor; we also stopped at the public library to check-out the "friends" store. Mr. Fun purchased three music CDs and I admired the Valentine decorations.
Then one final stop . . . we pulled over at a big parking lot field and gave Chloe and Mitzi their food bowls filled with lunch (I forgot to take photos). It was a little distracting for them, but they finally managed to eat their picnic lunch.
Thirteen miles later we were back in Cayucos stopping at the library to get a book (The Comfort of Crows”) I had requested about six months ago.
We arrived home and our neighbors who are here seldom (they live and work in Bakersfield), helped Mr. Fun carry the table upstairs to our sunroom.
I could erase all the previous words and basically express this has been a fabulous day with a fun adventure. So now you know. That’s my Friday “Show & Tell.”
From California’s Central Coast,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
and Chloe & Mitzi Too!
