Ladies who lunch!
This is our friend ViolaMaths (or SwimmingAgainst The Tide) inside the Cherwell Boat House, a local (2 miles-ish from us) and good restaurant.
There was no special reason for going out there, except for an idea of mine to lunch there. The dining room (pictured here with rather more people who lunch), has peaceful views over the River Cherwell (a local tributary of the Thames), of punts lined up for hire, and (out of University Term) a variety of tourists who are sadly lacking in expertise so far as punting is concerned (undergraduates often become skilled because they regard river activities as an integral part of their education in, say, history or philosophy). And ducks, who seem better at getting to their intended destination (but the small ones also appear sometimes to think that a punt is their mother who is to be followed closely) . I don't think they are used as supplies for the restaurant. We were esated at a nice table in one of the large windows, and had a granstand view of the river. My photograph of the interior of the restaurant was taken from our table, facing away from the window.
The food was indeed excellent. I have put the lunch menu at the bottom here, and marked in bold what we ate.
Here are my chargrilled medallions of ham, accompanied by an outstanding sauce.
Here is ViolaMaths's salmon, also pronounced excellent.
Violamaths has to go easy on the wine, as you see, since she is driving. I am not [driving] and do not [go easy]!).
