A day reflecting on life....
I could write a few pages of how I feel right now but.... Back when I was over the road, I got into amateur radio as something to do while going down the highway or stuck somewhere. Blip came along and photography started to take up my time. Well with life changing again, knowing how much fun I had - I started looking at radios again..
So much has changed... In high school I had picked up a used stereo tube amp - and although it had to warm up first - it sounded really lovely.. All my amateur gear was old fashioned transistors, capacitors, knobs and black and white displays, and... Looking around today and almost everything is software defined. I'm more of a purist - radio shouldn't need software upgrades or be connected to the internet but I do have to admit the capabilities are amazing - seems like cheating though seeing a screen full of "voices" and you mouse click to talk to someone... Something about the magic is lost of just seeing what is out there, calling CQ to see if anyone in the world responds and... With only a local VHF/UHF radio - it'll be awhile before I will be on the HF bands again..
Going to see my mom tomorrow. Once she is off antibiotics (hopefully next week) then they will decide on when to remove the stone and drain tube. Not sure what to expect with her at the care home. Will still bring a treat just in case...
