Double
A 12:30 kick off at Valley Parade (extra) provided an opportunity for a double header of football, with me just about making it two miles up to the hill to Eccleshill United in time for the more usual 15:00 ko, in the forty minutes between games.
In the first game Bradford City took the lead inside the first few minutes, but never quite managed to secure a second, despite plenty of chances. Harrogate, who have become something of a bogey team for City, came close a few times themselves, so it was a more anxious second half than the impressive opening had promised. A 1-0 win for City was their seventh consecutive home league win, and keeps them well in touch with promotion places.
Up the hill, Eccleshill (blue) have been having a slow season in the NCEL, while Golcar United (green and black) are currently in second place. It was Golcar that took the lead, but Eccy showed good resilience in coming behind for a 2-1 win. It was apparently (my football logging app knows all) my 25th visit to Eccleshill’s ground, although a good chunk of those are from when it was the home base for Bradford City Women.
Thankfully the buses proved fairly true to timetable, as my toing and froing across the city took me on five different buses during the course of the day. The threatened rain never amounted to much, but it was a cold day, and not one for lengthy stays at bus stops.
