Royal Guildford
Met up with former NHS colleagues today for one of our occasional reunion lunches. We ate at The March Hare in Castle Hill, Guildford - a popular restaurant pub, and the meal was up to their usual high standard. I noticed the coat of arms on a nearby building which commemorates the time when the future Edward l enjoyed the company of his young princess, Eleanor of Castille, in the nearby Guildford Castle. They married in 1254 and Edward, also known as Edward Longshanks, succeeded to the throne in 1274. There's not much of the castle left these days but the main tower is still accessible.
