Full day
Had some friends from the village pop round for a coffee in the morning, which is the first time they have been to see us at this house. A very pleasant couple of hours was spent. J&L and Amber came over early as J had been working at home. We had a quick lunch and we then met up with K and D and walked down to the castle for a lecture on our cluttered skies. A guy from the Royal Astronomical Society (as per photo) gave an interesting talk on the exponential growth in satellites we have had in the last ten years. Most of them can be blamed on Musk and Space X and it is a disaster in terms of astronomical research and potentially also for the effects on our atmosphere and unknown ways that it may affect us more generally when the satellites break up. It cries out for better regulation but with Trump and Musk running the show you just know that isn’t going to happen.
My hope is that it stops making commercial sense to keep launching them.
