Celebrating Valentines Day

Friday
A quiet morning at home, followed by lunch out at a Turkish restaurant in Kenwood. We had been once before when we were coming back home from something, but we were too late for their lunch menu, and so we just had a starter and dessert - one of the best pieces of baklava we’ve ever had! Today we had the lunch special - starter, main course and dessert, though the piece of baklava was tiny! It was good, but we decided not as good - food, service or atmosphere wise - as our favourite Mediterranean restaurant, Phoenician Taverna. Unfortunately I didn’t think to take a photograph of the food or my Valentine, so I just snapped a photo of the lovely centerpiece as we were leaving.
Most of the afternoon, we were on the phone with family, making arrangements for our upcoming trip to England for my brother’s memorial service on March 6. It’s complicated since Laura is going early to spend some time with her grandad, and visit with Judy and other family members, but unfortunately she can’t stay until the memorial service, as she has something already booked.
Our daughter Jen is also going over, but she arrives the day after Laura leaves! So we started with my sister Janet, then spoke to my sister in law Judy, then Laura, and finally Roger’s sister Janet! To complicate things further, Roger’s uncle Barry, his Dad’s youngest brother, died rather unexpectedly two days ago. He and his family all still live on the island of Guernsey, so Roger’s sister Janet is going over to represent the family at the funeral, while Laura is in England. John will stay behind as he has several commitments. It’s not practical for Roger’s Dad to go due to his age and mobility issues. Life can be complicated! This year is really getting off to a bad start! And on top of this, we have to put up with the daily horrors coming from the White House. If we were watching this as TV fiction, we would say it was ridiculous and too far fetched, but unfortunately it isn’t!
It makes me want to hibernate for the next four years!
