How about these front steps?
W. and I took a walk in Taylorstown today, about 25 minutes north along Catoctin Creek. These steps looked fun to try...but we didn't. We went up the unpaved back road where once there had been a mill like the one in Waterford, and a sawmill and distillery to boot. It was a livelier place during colonial days and later the civil war, and I read some tragic stories about the bitter partisan conflict between the unionist-minded millers and others, and the Virginia confederate troops led by "Gray Ghost" Col. Mosby. Now there's an effort to conserve the creek as a scenic waterway along the sixteen miles between Waterford and the Potomac River. I'd love to paddle a canoe through here.
Extras: the creek....and someone put up handprinted hearts all over Leesburg!
