Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

By Carol

2025 Tuesday — Gathering

A spontaneous moment happened this evening near the border of Norco and Eastvale when the calendars of all these people aligned and a meal and celebration at Heroes Restaurant & Brewery was enjoyed.

This was our first time to see our youngest great-granddaughter Baby Charlotte in person; it’s what we call real FaceTime. She was born November 2nd. Feeling the softness of her brand new skin and seeing her look at me was worth the three months of waiting; listening to little RJ converse about his meal with Uncle Emerson and watching him make Valentines with Grandma Deidre was deeply meaningful.

We weren’t celebrating any milestones; no, but it was a milestone to be altogether celebrating. Feeling Charlotte’s tiny little hands grip my seventy-five year old arthritic finger was soul stirring.

I remember as a child being the youngest granddaughter in Grammie Teele’s home when she was in her seventies and now I’m seeing from the rear view mirror of memory as past and present intersect in my world.

Lots of moments in life are worth the wait, but when the wait is over the moment is better than any fantasy, than any fairytale, because it’s real. I hear the song writer softly singing somewhere backstage “The secret to life is enjoying the passage of time” as I try to hide this moment behind my eyes; to savor it like the most expensive meal I’ve ever tasted.

Good night from SoCal,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
and Chloe & Mitzi too!
