Pedaling Hard
I didn't have far to hobble for this pic. My house, as were thousands of others around Surrey, was effectively closed off to all traffic at 5am and didn't reopen until they had finished clearing most of the signage this evening. I find it annoying that there was no consultation but seeing 20,000 cyclists pass by this morning made the closure worth while. It's a long walk to this junction from the nearest parking point so there were only a few sporadic supporters in the morning and a few more turned out for the pros in the afternoon.
As with the Olympics, the main race was whoosh and in a blink you could easily miss it. I had a good shot of the leaders in the race but much preferred the many bikes in the trailing group to the one with eight souls and the pursuing troop of camera men on motor bikes and far more bikes on the roof of cars that could surely have been necessary.
The amateurs however passed thick and fast throughout the morning. The first man came through just before 8am. Soon the traffic was almost too thick to cross the road and continued until well after 11.30am. Both my nephew and my brother in law have participated in the major Cape Argus tour in South Africa and I'm sure they'd both love this event, destined to become an annual one, in the future. The London one is longer at 100 miles as opposed to 109 kilometers.
There were a number of blown tyres and other missing parts to knock people out in front of here. :) Might look into opening a mobile cycle shop next year. Joking!
My foot is now a magnificent red, swollen and the worst scald areas clearly visible in pure white, but there's no sign of blisters and the pain has eased. I'll get my GP to look at it in the morning, only because I've been nagged, but I doubt the trip is necessary. There's not much that can be done now.
My apologies for ignoring everyone for so long. Life, shhhh, I shouldn't say it, is coming together again so I promise I'll get back to you all very soon. :) Thank you for all the stars, fav's and wishes for yesterdays blip.
