Cadaques Saturday in the Sun
We enjoyed coffee in our room and then a relaxed breakfast downstairs in El Ranxo, where we’re staying for the first time. We like it! Simple, traditional and very friendly and welcoming. It may become our new place, especially now that we’ve found out that the new owners our old favourite, El Blaumar, are also the owners of two newly-built hotels here too.
It was perfect Cadaques weather for February - sunny but chilly, and in fact we were both overdressed for our long walk and had to shed scarves and layers. We started to feel a bit ‘trauchled’! We walked along the east side of the village, down what we call ‘Memory Lane’, and back along the front, ending up in The Casino (it’s a cafe bar). Back to the hostal for a siesta.
We had dinner in Casa Nun - another favourite - which has been on our blips a few times before. It’s now run by Pachi, the young son of the owner Paco, who we’ve got to know quite well over the years. Paco and Amaya (she was one of the architects for our Barcelona house) live above the restaurant and he came down for a chat. Lovely to see him again and hear about what he’s been up to since he handed over the reins 5 years ago. We look forward to reading his book when it’s finished! The menu is quite different now, less choice, no menu del noche like before, but the food was still fresh and delicious and Pachi has clearly learnt a lot from his dad and did a good job of welcoming people and chatting away while serving the tables. Good luck to him!
