Beach Spider Lily
I photographed this Beach Spider Lily, Hymenocallis littoralis, in our village garden. It's a very common garden plant in this part of Australia, originating in tropical Latin America.
Wikipedia says that the name spider lily comes from the dangly petals that, some think, resemble spider legs. But spider lilies have 6 petals, whereas spiders have 8 legs! This gets very confusing, late at night, for an old amateur naturalist.
