Rather frustrating morning meeting with my mum, her financial adviser, my brother and I trying to course her into some sensible planning for the future instead of handing the family jewels to the taxman in IHT. Unfortunately she is intent on the very best nursing home and doesn’t much care for what if anything is left. Some hair was pulled out as the family holiday home in the Isle of Man has just been sold and the proceeds look like they may dwindle in a bank account waiting for said nursing home to squander rather than doing some good.
