Sue and I saw the new Tilda Swinton/Julianne Moore film, The Room Next Door. Unfortunately the Trailer has all the best parts. It has all the slick stuff: fabulous costumes, gorgeous sets, beautiful hair and makeup. But no emotion. Worst performance I’ve ever seen from Swinton. She played it with a pretty convincing American accent, but I’d trade the accent for one or two genuine feelings. Moore was OK, but we thought it would never end. Very forgettable.

We also saw an interesting locally-made documentary on death and dying (much cheerier than the Almadóvar film; it actually had a few laughs). We brainstormed a new project, and we made dinner for one of Sue’s sisters and Sue’s elder son and had a great time talking about Greek and Roman history, American Civil War history, and parallels with the current horrific takeover of the US government.
