Feed me….

A chilly but mainly dry day. Had everything more or less fed by lunch time so decided to head off to the Lothians beef group meeting which was near Kelso today.
It was at Roxburgh Mains ,known for its Aberdeen Angus herd.
It was a very interesting visit. One of the things they do is measure the feed conversion for all of the bulls. This means recording how much they eat for 50 days and how much weight they put on. The figures show that some genetics take a lot less feed to produce the same amount of growth than others , hence a better cost saving and hopefully profit.
The picture shows a bull at a feeder which weighs how much each animal eats every time , and records this thanks to them all having electronic ear tags ,then sending the data to a computer, which then sends all the data to be analysed.
Was back home by 6 pm, in time to feed my cows , which definitely aren’t pedigree !
