Yesterday daughter A and her family spent the day with us near Keswick after M, A and young O went swimming (without wetsuits) in the icy cold river near the youth hostel in Borrowdale.  We set off to walk around Derwent Water with tiny pellets of snow stinging our faces and were glad to get into the shelter of the woods before it cleared.  The weather was much calmer this morning and we had time for only a very short walk before returning home.  When we stopped at the excellent Booths supermarket before driving back, we were pleasantly surprised by A and the others who were also on their way home.  Due to cancelling the Christmas visit because of illness, it has been several months since we had seen the family so we especially enjoyed the weekend and seeing the twins with lead parts in their school show on Friday and hearing about O’s latest accomplishments and M’s voluntary work abroad.
The collage shows how low the water level is in the lake and apart from the last one with the jetty on the west side of the lake, they were taken at the boat centre at Keswick this morning.  The views are looking south towards Borrowdale, north towards Skiddaw and west while people wait to board the boat with Derwent Isle beyond.
