Bedsit
This is our room for the next three days. It is in Swarkestone Pavilion in Derbyshire. It was built in the 1630s as a majestic grandstand for the enclosure in front, thought to have been used for bowls. It belonged to Swarkestone Hall; the hall was demolished in 1750 but the pavilion remained although it became dilapidated and eventually was just a shell.
The Landmark Trust took it on in 1985 and rebuilt the roof, installed flooring and a staircase and fitted it out for use as a holiday home. We like staying in quirky properties so this appealed to us.
The weather is dull and very cold, but we will explore the area over the next couple of days.
