Walking the old line.

At Arnside station the line from Barrow to Lancaster used  to divide with the more northerly branch going over the country to Durham. It was used to bring coke from the Durham coalfields to the Furness peninsula.
It has been closed for over 40 years but now provides a very pleasant path along the edge of the Kent Estuary.
Here you see the section leading onto the station where a train has just stopped.
At one time before the rails were removed this section was used as overnight parking for the Queen’s train. This was when
Her Majesty came to stay with the Cavendish family at Holker Hall.
