Our insurance company has provided us with a LeakBot.  Now that I have the installation instructions it's pretty clear it's not going to fit our plumbing unless I take some kitchen units apart.  It just clips onto the pipes but supposedly requires quite precise positioning relative to where the water comes into the house.

I've not investigated how it works but my guess would be temperature or acoustic variations after it's learnt what what 'normal' is.
