1942: Pilot Edward O'Hare becomes the first American WWII flying ace
Quote Of The Day
"Without hesitation, alone and unaided, he repeatedly attacked this enemy formation, at close range in the face of intense combined machine gun and cannon fire ...... one of the most daring, if not the most daring, single action in the history of combat aviation."
(Edward O'Hare's Medal Of Honour citation)
Thankfully, the only combat that took place today was a snowball fight in the grounds of this shrine between my class and the Year Four class of Joto School as we made our annual exchange visit. Lots of fun and friendship as the children also flew kites, played traditional Japanese games like kendama, daruma, fukuwarai, as well as skipping and marbles. Always a joy.
