The Worlds Fastest Indian
We visited the main attraction of Invercargill today - E Hayes store which is a mix of a hardware store and a museum. It’s home to the motorbike which broke the land speed record in 1927 at 184mph on Bonneville Salt Flats. Adapted and ridden by Burt Munro it was a 1920 Indian Scout motorbike. Hayes store has the original - and a replica, which you can sit in to get your photo taken. So did I! Burt and Mr Hayes were big pals and motorbike fanatics.
It is also the subject of a film starring Anthony Hopkins - which I haven’t seen.
Besides looking at old motorbikes, we did a trip round the charity shops to pick up a few items for camping at the weekend.
