Is industrial Germany really on the slide?

We have traveled several hundred kilometres across Germany today and seen huge road improvement schemes underway, large and small towns with both business and residential property developments and large numbers of business vehicles on the roads. It looks tidy and businesslike across the country. The politicians may look iffy but the economy looks OK.
