Mission accomplished

For several years I’ve seen adverts for concerts and events where tickets are available either at the venue two hours before, or at a mysterious location called Gaudeamus. I’ve asked a few times where this shop/ticket office/mysterious venue is to be found. No success.

A few years ago, I went with two friends, to the Carnaval Classical Concert. It was magnificent, crazy, brilliant - and totally sold out.

The conductor of the Classical Orchestra of Madeira is exceptional. He’s also a hugely entertaining and charismatic individual (with all the grand panache of a stand up comedian).

Marvellous classical music. 
Fancy dress.
Crazy and hilarious sketches and situations.
Entertainment of the very highest order.

Success. Today I discovered Gaudeamus. It’s located in the buildings of the University of Madeira.. They were charming. I have my carnival concert ticket, and a ticket for a violin concert tomorrow. Mission accomplished.

My main blip is the courtyard where I sat briefly and looked round. Groups of tourists with student guides….lots of other interesting activities that I can explore in future.

My extras today are the Funchal City Hall and the Jesuit Church…..both close by the mysterious Gaudeamus …
