Remarkably Dull Weather

Just as well I couldn’t go out today as, despite ‘full sunshine’ symbols appearing all over the BBC Weather app for a large part of the day, it has been pretty relentlessly grey overhead. I had a boiler service booked in for some time between 8am-6pm. The engineer turned up at 3pm and was gone again about half an hour later, pronouncing the 23-year-old boiler in “immaculate condition”. I was going to have it replaced, but if there’s nothing wrong with it maybe I’ll leave it a bit longer. He seemed to think newer models weren’t nearly as reliable. Tricky decision, but if it ain’t broke…

I used the time waiting around at home to do a bit of sorting through stuff, and it felt good to be getting on with it at last. There’s the opportunity to do some more tomorrow. I have dug out a fair amount of surplus bed linen, not good enough for the charity shop but not frayed or ragged either. Not sure what to do with it to be honest, as I really don’t like waste but have no need of it here.

While the gas engineer was doing the boiler service, I made a start on the latest book club novel - ‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’ by Shelby Van Pelt. I have ten days in which to finish it, so will have to step up the reading pace. Those in the group who have reached the end have given it a big thumbs up, so we’re all looking forward to discussing it.
