Stuff and Nonsense

Whooper Swan #27

For my first day out, I'd decided upon Lynford Arboretum to see if I could find a Hawfinch. This has been quite a reliable place in the past and there had been reports of a couple in the usual place, but after 2 hours I hadn't seen any and neither had anyone else I met.
I was then planning on going to Sculthorpe Moor which is one of my favourite reserves, but there was some water main works going on meaning a huge detour, so I plumped for WWT Welney instead.
It was very windy this afternoon, but thankfully it was also 14 degrees so it didn't feel cold at all.
3 cranes were in the distance from the visitor centre, but way too far off for pictures. Nice to see though as I don't think I'll see them anywhere else we are planning on visiting this year.
There were thousands, over 14 thousand apparently, of Whooper Swans on the Fens, but few actually on the reserve, and I failed to find the Bean Geese, Bewick Swans and the black necked grebe that has been around for a few days, so not all that successful. But it is good to be back in Norfolk again.
Today's blip is of a Whooper Swan that was feeding right in front of the main hide.

I don't think I'll be doing much commenting this week, but will hopefully have time to just sprinkle stars and hearts.
