Milestone

This metal milestone, attached to a stone post, is located on Chester Road in Kelsall. The road used to be part of the A54 until the by-pass was built in 1986 and was a major bottleneck as cars and lorries struggled up Kelsall Hill. The milestone was erected in the 19th century by the Northwich and Kelsall Turnpike Trust and ran for 9 miles as can be seen from the mileage on the sign.
