The Hamster and the Hippeastrum
Today it has rained nearly the whole day. The only saving grace is that the temperature has risen by about 6C to a balmy 11C.
The day was designated for housework but I was distracted early on, when I discovered a very small furry animal (a vole, or more likely a hamster) scampering about in our garage! It quickly disappeared behind the freezer, before I could attempt to catch it.
I texted our neighbours who I knew have a couple of hamsters, enquiring whether they were missing one. Yes, shot back the reply- we lost one, about five or six weeks ago! Amazingly, this escapee (called Speedy!) had managed to evade the attentions of their two dopey house cats, and somehow find her way from the neighbours' garage to ours, which adjoins theirs. The two young owners and Mum brought round, and set, three humane traps. Now we wait!
The Blip is of an Amaryllis, more properly known as Hippeastrum, which I bought it in the January sales. I can't recall what colour it is, so it will be a nice surprise when it flowers in a few weeks' time.
