Book 8 of the year, out of a group of four from an auction a little while ago. From 1886 this is a ‘life sketch’ of the Laird of Lag, Sir Robert Grierson, who is the subject of dark tales of abuse of power and violent suppression in Dumfries and Galloway (including tying two female Covenanters to rocks to be drowned by the tide).

The author is a little full of his own self importance, and adamant that everyone else is getting the story wrong, and at times it feels like a big list of names. But all of that said, it still contained enough to make it interesting.
