Channeling the country vibe

This afternoon my friend S came over and we decided to work with the speed lights and try to get more comfortable with placement and setting the light strength.  My friend posed for the practice session.  I think I might  try the manual setting on the flash, I feel like ETTL may not be letting me adjust like I want to.  There maybe another session in the future.  If anyone has words of wisdom I'm always open to suggestions.
