M's daffodils

When I was a small child, our mother told me that these yellow ones with a trumpet centre were called ‘daffodils’. The flatter, white or cream, ones were ‘narcissus’. I have believed her to this day.

However it seems she was wrong. Both are daffodils, belonging to one of the 40 species that make up the narcissus genus. It’s a sad day when you have to trust Google rather than your mother.
