55 Broadway
This extraordinary art deco building was for many years the headquarters of London Underground (and, at various times, related London Transport organizations). It was built between 1927-29 and upgraded from Grade II (1970) to Grade I in 2011. Around the building there are numerous carvings: one by Henry More, two by Jacob Epstein (including the one on view), and other artists also. The building no longer functions as transport headquarters and there is permission to develop it into a hotel (because there’s a shortage in London).
