In the Saimaa Canal

The last day of my vacation and I did something I don't have done ever before. After breakfast, I drove to Nuijamaa and took my daily walk in the Saimaa Canal, where local volunteers had made 5 kilometers long track for skiers, skaters, and walkers. This was the first winter they did that, as there has not been and will no be shipping traffic this winter due to the closure of the Russian border. Worth to check the map for exact location of Nuijamaa.

Weather was again perfect for winter outdoor activities, so I wasn't the only person there. Also one of the volunteers was maintaining the track. The ice was also very smooth and over 30 cm thick, so it was also safe to walk on.
