There Must Be Magic

Sunday Afternoon Bike Ride to Fields of Gold

You'll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we walk in fields of gold

We've begun a milder spell of weather that meant that I put laundry on the line and took my bicycle for a lovely Sunday afternoon ride. It was sunny and breezy when I hopped on the bike and took out to visit all of the sweet spots around our neighborhood.

There is a favorite place I like to stop and admire the golden farm fields, over at the corner of Stonerow. I park the bike* and indulge myself, simply standing there and looking out at things, usually listening to my tunes box, thinking great thoughts. Or not.

(Yes, I listen to music even when I'm on my bike, but I only use both ear phones when I'm on the side roads. On the main road, I take one out so that I can hear the cars.)

The cornfields in winter have a particular artistic beauty all their own: alternating wavy lines of gold, with stripes of white snow in between. The symmetry and the lines and the peaceful simplicity of it all are pleasing to me, and so here is a photo of one of my favorite places, taken while I was doing one of my favorite things!

My soundtrack song for this image can only be Sting's song Fields of Gold. Here is also a lovely cover by Eva Cassidy. The opening paragraph is from the song.

*Why, yes, that IS a patch of solid ice I'm parked on. You should SEE the driveways around here. What a nightmare! So many lanes and drives, you can't even get down these days. We've had snow, then ice, then melt, then freezing rain, then melt, then refreeze. STILL SLIPPERY AS ALL HECK!!! So watch yourselves out there. Be safe, okay? :-)
