A Swedish Innovation!
The modern day zipper was the innovation of Swedish-born engineer, Gideon Sundback. Others had tried to make a closure of a similar kind, including Elias Howe and Whitcomb Judson ( who used a series of hooks and eyes), but it was Sundback's idea of using several tiny interlocking metal teeth that made the zipper practical and commercially successful, though it was not Sundback who named his innovation. Industrialist, B. F. Goodrich coined the onomatopoeic word In 1923 because of the sound the fastener made as it was pulled up or down. Thanks to heanku for hosting and the new knowledge I have gained as a result of my research for this particular blip!
