Cinema
This afternoon we went to the delightful Everyman cinema on Whiteladies Road in Bristol. This lovely art deco building was opened in 1920 and, as well as the cinema, housed a ballroom, billiard room and restaurant (I am informed). It was converted to a three screen cinema in 1978 but closed in 2001 owing to the decline in cinema attendance.
The Grade II listed building started to fall into disrepair, but in 2010 it was restored as a cinema and now offers comfortable, spacious armchairs and sofas with very generous leg room, and food and drink brought (if you wish) to your seat. It certainly makes the cinema experience a whole lot more enjoyable than the "flea-pits" of my youth.
And the film we saw? Bridget Jones, of course, and I enjoyed every minute of it. There are a few stragglers here after the end of the film.
